So you are not sure about Christianity, but you are past what it means to become a Christian. You know you have to accept Jesus Christ, but you can’t just believe anything. If that is where you are today, I hope you will read this article.
You might have already had a Christian come up to you with some strange way to get you to go to church. There are many apologies we have to make for some the ways people think are successful. It is amazing however, the way God uses people to bring us to Jesus. I am not the type of person that forces anything on anyone. If given the opportunity I will walk through the door, but I am not the type to kick it in. A quick story, I have prayed for my brother in law to become a Christian and finally one Sunday morning I told my sister I would really appreciate it if she came to church with me. She mentioned something about her husband and I said, “I don’t care if your husband goes or not.” Well that was enough for him, he was going. Three years later he has been on three mission trips to Romania and he gives me some credit for that comment I made. I don’t want to think I was rude, but sometimes frustration gets the best of us. He is so thankful that God kept pursuing him and he believes in Jesus. If you are not a Christian and have made it this far, that is God pursuing you. But, you can’t force someone to believe anything.
What are some of the common road blocks people have to Christianity?
How about, the bible is full of miracles and I don’t believe in miracles so the bible must not be true? So the reason you don’t believe in the bible is because you don’t believe in miracles? And the reason you don’t believe in miracles is because you haven’t seen one? I can’t say that I have ever seen a miracle, but I can tell you I just read about one today. I was reading on CNN’s website about a mother and child who are fine after the mother was unresponsive for over five minutes during labor. To me that is a miracle. I can’t hold my breath for more than a minute. Granted, the bible claims Jesus walked on water and we have yet to read about someone walking on water. I can’t always explain God, but when people ask me if I believe Jesus walked on water I say, absolutely. It confirms who he claimed to be and could be one of the reasons why people decided to keep talking about him. I am so glad Jesus walked on water.
Another reason I hear, People of that day would believe anything. Let’s look at some of the actions from the people of that day. Picture if you actually saw Jesus walk on water. Would you believe him? For me, I’m sold. He must be who he says he is. So after people saw Jesus walk on water and heal people, Jesus says to them in Mark 9:31 “The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise” So what happens after Jesus died on the Cross? They buried him and everyone went home! Seriously? Jesus walks on water, heals people, feeds five thousand, says he will rise and everyone goes home? I would be sitting outside the tomb to see if I could see anything happen. No one was there. When they finally heard that Jesus has risen, John 20 says that Peter, his friend, ran into the tomb and still didn’t know what happened. The people of that day didn’t just believe anything. I would like to think that I would believe what Jesus was saying before they did.
Last one, I can’t explain everything about Christianity so I’m waiting until I get all my questions answered. I bet everyone who sells TV or is on TV is extremely happy that everyone doesn’t take this approach. I have yet to figure out how I can sit in my family room and watch a movie or sporting event with a TV and antenna. I can’t see the picture flying through the air and into my TV, but it does. If you can read this from the internet, I would be highly impressed if you know how everything worked to get this information in front of you. Do you only believe the things you can explain? I believe a TV works, but I can’t explain it.
Finally, I want to give my reason for believing the bible and who Jesus is. I think everyone owes it to themselves to at least come up with an explanation as to who Jesus is. I don’t just believe anything, but I at least want to give an educated opinion if someone asked me who Jesus is.
I think there is more evidence today then there was 2,000 years ago. When I started to decide for myself who Jesus is, I could never explain why so many people 2,000 years later were still worshipping a carpenter from Galilee. How is it possible that people are still talking about Jesus? The miracles Jesus did and claims he made put him in a huge spotlight for everyone to prove wrong. No one could prove him wrong so the leaders killed him to try to put an end to Jesus. Lies will die, but the truth will set you free. If Jesus wasn’t who he claimed to be, we wouldn’t still be here talking about him.
How do you finish this sentence? Jesus Christ is . . .
